Day 3--Virginia

We were lazy this morning and slept in a bit. After breakfast at IHOP we headed out to get back on the Shenandoah Parkway to drive the final two thirds of the way. Just more great scenery everywhere you look. We heard a lot of birds, but really couldn't see them because of the heavy foliage. We did see one bluebird and he just posed and sang for Marcia and she was pleased. I did see a deer in the woods but Marcia missed him.

I really liked this dead tree at one of the scenic overlook. Marcia thought it was funny that with all of this beautiful scenery I took a picture of a dead tree.

After we were done driving the parkway (took a couple of hours to do 60 miles) we headed to the Skyline Caverns, which were located just a few miles away. We got a personal tour of about an hour of the caverns and had a really nice time doing that. I've always found caves to be fascinating. My camera doesn't take good pics in low light, so you'll have to take my word that it was pretty amazing.

Then it was time to head to the next location. Marcia was all confused. As we headed north, we went through part of West Virginia and Maryland. We finally ended up in Pennsylvania where she finally guessed where we were headed. Our main destination for this trip: LANCASTER COUNTY (Amish Country). Tomorrow, though, we will visit Gettysburg.
